A dog walker who was cut off by the rising tide off New Brighton was helped back to shore by a passer-by on Monday, 2 November.

The woman and her dog were stranded on North Bank, off King's Parade.

Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team was sent, and New Brighton RNLI was alerted, but the lifeboat crew were stood down before launching because the pair were already being helped.

A member of the public waded through the gully to help the woman to safety.

In a Facebook post, the coastguard team said: "Thankfully, everyone made it safely back to shore, where they were met by our coastguard rescue officers."

The team thanked the person who called the coastguard so quickly, and gave this advice:

  • Check tide times before you head out.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Never underestimate how quickly the incoming tide can cut you off.
  • If you see someone in difficulty at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

It is the latest in a run of call-outs along the north Wirral shore. Last month the coastguard urged people to take care during high tides and strong winds.
