A wheelchair user from Leasowe says a new path which has been paved across local playing fields near her home has left her feeling like a prisoner.
Wirral Council is planning to remove the old tarmac path beside the new laid path.
The path, which is gritstone, was laid across Links View Playing Fields earlier this year. The fields connect Leasowe Road and Ross Avenue.
However, the path has become hellish for Soraya Sperring, 59, who uses it and cuts through the fields multiple times each day.
Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service and their reporter Andrew Spence, she said her wheels continue to get stuck in the material, which is like loose sand. To help her, she's had to rely on the kindness of strangers to free her from the path.
She said: "It makes me feel like a prisoner. I'm petrified. If there isn't a lot of people out when I get stuck, I am totally stranded."
For now, Ms. Sperring can use the old tarmac path. However, it appears Wirral Council is looking to remove the tarmac path.
If removed, Ms. Sperring would have no efficient way to reach her local amenities.
More issues have been raised than just the difficulty of the pathway. Ms. Sperring has also said grass that has grown through the new path has been transported into her home via her tyres.
A Wirral Council spokesperson told the LDRS the original path was narrow and in poor condition, and the new route was built to be a wider shared path for pedestrians and cyclists.
The council added that they're happy with how the path is working. However, they have welcomed concerns raised by wheelchair users.
Accessibility on Wirral's routes has been in the news recently, with a councillor calling for fold-down seats on the new Metro buses.
