Over 41,000 in Bromborough and across to Ellesmere Port could qualify for a £100 energy payment.

The new Household energy Payment was announced on 28 October as part of the Government's Autumn budget. The payment is due to be paid from January 2027 to help households with the rising cost of energy bills.

Recent figures show around 41,310 properties across the Ellesmere Port and Bromborough constituency were in Council tax Bands A to D at the end of March 2026. This makes them potentially eligible for the payment.

Justin Madders, the Labour MP for the consistency has said the support would provide relief to local families in need.

In a statement, he said: "I know how worried many families across Ellesmere Port and Bromborough are about the cost of energy, particularly as we head into the winter months.

"Conflicts in the Middle East and Europe are pushing up costs here at home. While we cannot control events overseas, we can take action here to help people with the bills they face.

He added that the payment will provide a "breathing space" for a significant number of local households."

The Budget also includes measures aimed at reducing energy costs, with the temporary 0% VAT rate on domestic electricity extended until July 2027.

The move is expected to reduce the annual energy price cap by around £50 from April. Further plans include tackling household energy debt and abolishing gas standing charges.

Motorists will also benefit from an extension of the existing 5p fuel duty cut until July 2027, alongside a continued freeze in fuel duty.

Meanwhile, changes to business rates are expected to mean around 55% of retail, hospitality and leisure properties across the North West pay no business rates following changes to relief thresholds.

The Budget also includes an additional £1.5 billion nationally to support the delivery of around 10,000 social and affordable homes, alongside a new £4.7 billion programme to help first-time buyers.

Mr Madders said supporting local businesses was also important, adding: "Our local shops, pubs and businesses are at the heart of our communities, so measures to ease their costs are particularly important."
