A group of siblings supported by Wirral-founded Claire House Children's Hospice took to the dance floor over the weekend at the charity's annual Strictly event.
As reported by Birkenhead News, the young dancers were joined by eight amateur dancers and their professional partners at the event, named Claire House Does Strictly, on 26 September.
The event took place at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.
Claire House is well-known in the Wirral and Liverpool, as it supports terminally and seriously ill children, babies, and young adults. They also provide support to families and siblings of the children it cares for.
Niamh Mercer, 10, one of the young dancers taking part, said: "I love watching Strictly and I really wanted to do something for my sister, who passed away. Claire House means a lot to me because when I've been sad, they've always been there for me, and I've had someone to talk to."
The siblings have been learning their routine with Headliners over several weeks, building confidence while having fun together.
Alex Wheeler, Therapeutic Support Worker at Claire House, said: "We see every day how siblings can hold a lot of big emotions. Our role is to help them feel understood, supported and reminded that they're just as important. Our aim is to give siblings a chance to relax, express themselves creatively and just enjoy being children."
Events Fundraiser at Claire House, Debby Lofthouse said the children have worked "incredibly hard" on their routine this year, and said the confidence has grown "week by week" as the children have rehearsed.
Greenmount Projects has sponsored the Sibling Group Dance and donated their table on the evening to the parents of the children taking part.
The event raised over £65,000, according to a post by Claire House, and Alex and Zara were the champions.
The hospice's statement read: "The stage was bursting with talent thanks to our esteemed judges, young Claire House siblings and inspiring dancers. The event raised over £65,000, which will help to provide vital care and support for seriously ill children and their families."
"Thank you to everyone who helped to create a truly unforgettable evening. Together, you've turned dazzling performances into life-changing support for babies, children and young adults."
