A homelessness support group that began by handing out tents to rough sleepers is to be officially launched by the Mayor of Wirral.

Step To Shelter Merseyside CIC was set up in 2025. It will hold its official launch night at the Masonic Hall on Manor Road, Liscard, on Saturday, 10 April 2027, from 6pm to 11pm.

The Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Mary Jordan, will attend.

The group says it has supported more than 2,500 families across Merseyside facing homelessness and housing problems.

Money from ticket sales will go back into its work with rough sleepers and families facing eviction.

Founder and director Dylan Williams, who is a care leaver, told the Wirral Globe: "We started just going out giving tents out, but now we've built up a good relationship with Wirral Council and local MPs.

"Some don't have a mobile phone or SIM, so they can't get in touch with authorities. We can help with that on their behalf, helping them get temporary accommodation."

The group also helps families deal with councils and use the Property Pool Plus housing system.

Mr Williams said much of its frontline work is in Liverpool, where the need is "way, way higher".

It has previously received £200 from Wirral Fund Together, and a GoFundMe appeal last year raised £500.

Tickets to the launch can be purchased here for £15: https://www.zeffy.com/en-GB/ticketing/step-to-shelter-merseyside-cic-launch-night?fromOnboarding=true

Other Wirral organisations are also speaking up on homelessness. In August, YMCA Wirral urged the Prime Minister to act.
