A first is heading to the Wirral's animal hub, Claremont Farm, this weekend - the Animal Rescue Festival.
As reported by Birkenhead News, the wholesome festival will be open from 1 to 2 August from 10 am to 4 pm. The organisers are Celandine Wood Animal Rescue and Willowfields Sanctuary & Rescue.
The festival considers itself family-friendly, as there will be live entertainment, a wellness tent, a food court, and a pop-up bar. Fair rides will be available for children, with magicians, face-painting and a summer favourite, Punch and Judy.
A dog show will take place at 11 am on both days with the goofiest categories: waggiest tail, best trick, prettiest pooch and best biscuit catcher.
Wellness programmes will include yoga sessions on Saturday at 11 am, 12.30 pm and 2 pm, followed by a sound bath at 3.30 pm. Bookable sessions in reflexology, reiki, facials, breathwork, meditation and massage treatments are available throughout the weekend.
Celandine Wood Animal Rescue is run by Wirral-based vet Sharon Williams and helps abandoned and abused dogs, cats and other animals. Last year, it expanded with the opening of kennels in Wrexham.
Willowfields is a sanctuary dedicated to providing lifelong care for farm animals rescued from the meat, dairy and egg industries. Based in Hoylake, it was formerly known as Whitegate and is now under new ownership.
Dr Williams said in a statement: "We're aiming to bring the community together by creating an event involving multiple rescue organisations, animal businesses and supporters. The Animal Rescue Festival Wirral promises a weekend packed with entertainment, wellbeing and community spirit.
"We hope everyone will come along, have a fantastic day and support a really worthwhile cause. It's a constant challenge to meet the costs of running our kennels and Willowfields' sanctuary."
Attendees can park in the field like usual, and we urge anyone coming not to park on the road. Entries cost as little as a one-pound donation, with all profits going back into both of the organisers' animal work. For those wanting to take part in the dog show, registration is open from 10 am. There is a small cost for classes, with each class costing three pounds, or attendees can have four classes for ten pounds.
