Big things are happening on Merseyrail, as plans for a new station at Woodchurch are progressing, with early development work now underway.
It is one of four new stations Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has promised to start work on by 2030. The others are Liverpool Baltic, Carr Mill in St Helens and Daresbury in Halton.
The latest progress on all four will go to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority on Friday, 6 November.
The combined authority said findings from the Woodchurch work are expected in early 2027.
Liverpool Baltic is furthest ahead. The authority will be asked to approve its full business case, with building expected to start in 2027.
For Wirral's existing stations, work is under way to improve step-free access at Rock Ferry, and further schemes are being developed at Port Sunlight.
Mr Rotheram said: "When I became Mayor, it had been nearly 20 years since the last new Merseyrail station opened. Since then, we've opened two more – and now we're making progress on another four."
He added: "If you can't get to a decent job, college or university because there's no convenient rail connection, you're already starting at a disadvantage. I don't think that's right."
The plans come as transport in the city region comes back under public control. Merseyrail is due to be taken into public ownership in 2028, and Wirral's buses moved to the new Metro network last month.
We will report on Friday's decision.
