The last of the orange and yellow markings on Birkenhead's so-called "Wotsit Street" are nearly gone.

Work to remove the coloured surfacing from Grange Road West is close to finished, with only a few remnants still visible, according to pictures taken by the Wirral Globe.

At Charing Cross, a section of pavement has been resurfaced, giving an idea of how the finished street will look.

The one-way system on Grange Road West will stay in place.

The markings, planters and benches were put in as part of a six-month trial to see whether making the road one-way would help traffic move around the Charing Cross junction.

About £300,000 was spent on the scheme, which council leader Cllr Paula Basnett later called "a waste of money".

The council said monitoring showed the one-way system had helped the junction work better, but the surfacing, planters and benches caused "significant concern" locally. It chose to keep the one-way system, remove the temporary features and bring back parking.

The planters and street furniture were removed earlier, but earlier this month we reported that the markings were still there after the date they were expected to go.

It has been confirmed by the council that the planters and street furniture were donated to local charities and groups who wanted them.

The council confirmed in August that the orange markings would be removed.

As for when the work will finish? A date hasn't been given yet. When we reached out for a comment, Wirral Council's press team did not confirm an official date for the markings to be removed, but by the photographs published, it seems to be almost over, but is still ongoing.

Are you glad to see the back of it, or will you miss it? Tell us in the comments.
