The controversial orange and yellow markings on Birkenhead's Grange Road West are still there, despite the council saying they'd be removed over a week ago.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, Council leader Councillor Paula Basnett had told BBC Radio Merseyside in August that the coloured road markings were expected to be gone by the end of September, while street furniture and planters would be removed by the end of August.
The council has kept their promise with removing the planters and street furniture, which have been donated and located to other parts of the Wirral, but 'Wotsit Street' as it's known, remains.
Almost £300,000 was spent on transforming Grange Road West as a means to improve traffic flow in the area and business for businesses on that street. The scheme was trialled and ridiculed online, so the council decided to scrap it.
Residents have also ridiculed the design, saying it didn't look nice, and others have said it doesn't fit within the area.
Councillor Basnett called the design "a waste of money" and said it was "not appropriate to have street furniture and planters on that particular road". While she maintained that traffic calming measures were the right approach and argued the road should be one-way, she added: "Should it have been orange? Absolutely not."
Reportedly plans to remove the markings are said to be moving forward, as the road is expected to be resurfaced later this month, subject to change.
