A Birkenhead kebab restaurant has been named a finalist in two categories at this year's British Kebab Awards.
Kebabchi Mediterranean Grill, on Borough Road, is in the running for Best Kebab Takeaway in the North of England and Best Kebab Restaurant in the North of England.
It is the only finalist takeaway from Merseyside, the Wirral Globe reports.
The restaurant opened in August 2024 and was a runner-up at last year's awards.
Owner Ilyas Kus said: "To be recognised once again among the very best kebab establishments across the entire North is an honour we don't take lightly."
He said the restaurant marinates its meat for more than 24 hours, cooks it over charcoal and prepares its salads daily.
This is the 15th year of the awards. Organisers received more than 6,000 nominations and more than 40,000 public votes.
Judges took into account public votes and food hygiene standards.
Customers can vote until the end of January on the British Kebab Awards website.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London on 23 February 2027.
Elsewhere, Wirral businesses have picked up nine nominations in the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards.
