Building work has started on a new Aldi supermarket in Upton.

The store is part of a £9 million development at Champions Business Park, at the junction of Arrowe Brook Road and Arrowe Park Road.

It is expected to open in late 2027 and will create about 40 jobs, Aldi says.

The store will have 128 parking spaces, including accessible and parent and child bays.

Wirral Council's planning committee unanimously approved the plans in February. Aldi says more than 550 residents supported the proposal during its public consultation.

The company says the store will regenerate an underused brownfield site, and mean Upton shoppers no longer have to travel more than 2.5 miles to its nearest stores in Prenton and Moreton.

Stephen Jones, real estate manager at Aldi, said: "We're delighted to be starting work in Upton and to be a step closer to bringing an Aldi store to the community.

"Just as important to us is making sure the businesses already at Champions Business Park continue to thrive."

Businesses on the site will stay open during construction. They include:

  • Pine & Oak Warehouse
  • Arrow Kitchens and Bedrooms
  • ITF Taekwon-Do Wirral UKTA
  • VanH Conversions

Earlier this month, Moreton and Upton homes were among hundreds left without power after a morning power cut.

Aldi says the store will open in late 2027.
