Hundreds of homes across Moreton and Upton were left without electricity following a major power cut early this morning.

As reported by the Wirral Globe, many residents in these postcodes woke to find they had no power. The postcodes affected were CH46 and CH49 postcode. The power cut reportedly was around just before 6 am.

Scottish Power have confirmed the disruption. The Globe reported that an emergency engineer came to the areas affected to investigate the fault at around 6:18 am. A direct cause hasn't been named at the time of writing.

The company said it would attempt to reset the network remotely to restore power in stages.

Power did come back later in the morning, as the company estimated it would come back just after 8 am.

The company apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience while the issue was resolved.

It was the second power cut on Wirral in less than a week. On October 9, 154 homes in Hoylake suffered an electricity blackout, believed to have been caused by a blown fuse in a nearby substation.
