Staff working for Wirral charities and community organisations have spent the last 10 months working to create a accredited Adult Safeguarding training course specifically for volunteers.

In a post by Wirral CVS, they detailed how the free training course began with the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET), which helps anyone who takes it to become confident in teaching volunteers.

Wirral CVS is facilitating another cohort of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, starting on Thursday 15th April 2027. Ten places are available for staff at Wirral-based voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations who deliver some form of training to volunteers.

The programme follows the success of a first cohort which brought together staff from Wirral Mind, Age UK Wirral, Wirral Mencap, Wirral CVS and Positivitree.

Participants used their learning to co-produce the accredited Adult Safeguarding training course.

Training will take place over 12 weeks, with face-to-face sessions every other Thursday from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Sessions are scheduled for 15th April, 29th April, 13th May, 27th May, 10th June and 24th June. Participants will need to allow three to five hours of independent study between sessions.

The course is assessed through coursework and a practical teaching session during the 3 month period.

Rebekah, a peer support worker at Positivitree who completed the first cohort, said she applied because she wanted to develop skills around delivering workshops.

"I've taken so much away from the training and feel a lot more confident, not only in delivering workshops but in taking ownership and bringing my own ideas to the way I facilitate them," she said in a statement.

The opportunity is open to staff who deliver training to volunteers regardless of job title, including volunteer coordinators, project workers, community development workers or staff with specialist knowledge.

If you qualify and are interested in the course, please contact Jen Paton at Wirral CVS on jenpaton@wcvs.org.uk.
