Free dementia support clinics hosted by specialist Admiral Nurses are returning to Birkenhead and Liverpool this week, offering families affected by the condition access to expert advice in a private setting.
The clinics, run by Dementia UK in partnership with Nationwide Building Society, will visit the Birkenhead branch at 35-37 Milton Pavement in Grange Precinct tomorrow on 6 October, with Liverpool's Lord Street branch hosting sessions on 7 and 8 October.
The clinics are open to anyone who is affected by dementia, according to Birkenhead News. They will offer practical and emotional guidance on all aspects of the condition, from early concerns about symptoms through to getting a diagnosis and understanding how dementia can progress. Appointments can be booked via Dementia UK's website.
The UK's dementia population is estimated to be around one million, with the number of carers and families getting involved with dementia care increasing.
The charity has shared helpful tips for carers on their wellbeing. They recommend reaching out to friends and family, researching available services including Carer's Assessments from Social Services, and making time for hobbies and health checks. Carers should also find activities they can enjoy with patients, and should speak with employers about hybrid working.
Lesley Potter, Admiral Nurse at Dementia UK, said: "We're looking forward to returning to Liverpool and Birkenhead to offer support and advice to families affected by dementia in the area. Since the launch of our clinic programme, in partnership with Nationwide Building Society, we have been able to support thousands of people across the country with the lifeline of an Admiral Nurse, helping to ensure no one faces dementia alone."
Charlotte Kensett, Director of Customer Experience and Social Impact for Nationwide, said: "Dementia impacts millions of families and that's why we're incredibly proud to have brought life-changing support into 230 of our branches and helped more than 30,000 people through our partnership with Dementia UK."
