Two schools serving families across Wirral West are set to receive government funding to improve their buildings as part of a national investment programme.
According to Birkenhead News, West Kirby Grammar School and Brookdale Primary School in Greasby have been awarded grants through a programme called the Condition Improvement Fund, which will help schools replace heating systems, repair roofs and update electrical works.
The fund is distributing a sum of £450 million to a staggering 684 schools and sixth-forms across the country. It is part of a wider package of the School Rebuilding Programme, refurbishing schools whose buildings contained dangerous RAAC materials, a lightweight form of concrete.
Labour is enforcing the plan as part of a 10-year programme to renew education buildings and locally, ensure that classrooms are fit for learning across the Wirral.
Wirral West MP Matthew Patrick, who has been visiting schools across the constituency, recently met with West Kirby Grammar School headteacher Mr Clarke to discuss what the investment would mean for the school.
The MP said in a statement: "Through my visits to schools across Wirral West, I've heard clearly from teachers and pupils that giving children the best start means giving schools the resources they need. So, I welcome this funding for West Kirby Grammar School and Brookdale Primary School to revamp their buildings.
He continued, "I also recently spoke with the Headteacher of West Kirby Grammar School, and we discussed how important this funding boost is, as well as some of his great ideas to drive improvements forward.
The government is investing over £2.1 billion this year to improve school conditions nationally, with this being just one small effort to do so.
