Construction of the new Mosslands School in Wallasey has reached a significant milestone.
Pupils and education staff gathered for a steel-signing ceremony to celebrate the progress of the huge £61 million redevelopment.
According to Birkenhead News, the special ceremony, which you may be wondering about, involved guests signing the latest steel beam in the project before it was installed as part of the new secondary school building, which is set to be completed in 2028.
Those who attended the ceremony included Headteacher Adrian Whiteley, school pupils, Sally Pearson from the Department for Education, Wirral Council Deputy Leader Julie McManus, Dame Angela Eagle MP, and Willmott Dixon's Northern Managing Director Anthony Dillon.
The new building was created to modernise the learning environment of the school. It includes two sports halls, a replacement durable sports pitch, a multi-use games area, and new car park and cycling storage areas. Designer Ellis Williams Architects have designed buildings in the North West such as Storyhouse Chester Cultural Centre and The Ellesmere Port Sports and Leisure Village. The campus is being designed with Net Zero in mind.
Councillor Julie McManus said: "The Mosslands School is one of a number of schools being transformed through the DfE's School Rebuilding Programme, which is delivering improved facilities and high-quality learning environments for future generations.
She continued, "We're delighted to see this level of investment in Wirral, helping to provide our young people with the best possible start in life and a school environment they can truly be proud of."
Headteacher Adrian Whiteley said: "This building marks a bright new chapter for our community. This development will deliver a world-class facility that our boys truly deserve — a vibrant, modern learning environment designed to inspire curiosity, ambition and achievement for generations of learners to come."
He concluded by saying every inch of the new building is designed to support "outstanding teaching and learning" and to create new opportunities beyond education in sports, arts, leadership, and business.
