Students at Birkenhead Sixth Form College have achieved record-breaking A-level results, with the headteacher saying they have "blown it out of the park".
According to Birkenhead News, 94 percent of students at the college have been offered a place at university, following yesterday's national A-Level results day.
Among those celebrating was Jack Chesters, who secured an impressive A*AAA and will be heading to Edinburgh to study environmental sciences.
Chisom Ugwu achieved A*AAB and will be studying medicine at Keele University. She told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: "I'm really proud of myself and I'm so excited to go to uni in September. The application process wasn't easy, but I'm so glad that I made it in the end."
Headteacher Rob Myatt said: "I'm really delighted today for our students. They have blown it out of the park. Last year was a record; this year they've taken us to new heights with many of them going off to their first choice universities and apprenticeships as well.
"There are exciting times ahead for them, and we're really proud of our students. It's a testament to the dedication and commitment of our staff as well. Well done, the class of 2026, you've done us proud!"
Elsewhere in Wirral, students at Birkenhead School are also celebrating strong results. Almost a sixth of all grades achieved at the independent school were A*, with 76% being A* or A, according to Birkenhead News.
Head of Seniors Tom Whitworth said: "Today's results are testament to this philosophy, to the hard work of the students and to the professionalism and talents of all staff. I also wish to pay tribute to our families who trust in the school, and whose teamwork with us over so many years leads to deserved outcomes like today's."
St Mary's Sixth Form College in Wallasey also achieved outstanding results, having performed a half a grade higher than students on average across the country in vocational subjects, with an average grade of Merit+.
The school's head students, like Lily-May Rimmer, achieved Distinction* and Distinction in health and social care, and a C in sociology, while another student, Nathan Smathers, achieved Merits across the board in media, business and ICT.
Head of Sixth Form at the school, Sarah Witan, said: "The results students have received today are a true reflection of the dedication and commitment they have demonstrated during their two years of study, and are so very well deserved."
