A man has been jailed for 14 years after a family in Birkenhead was robbed at knifepoint in their own home.
Merseyside Police revealed today that Haneef Chowdhury, 29, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today after pleading guilty to robbery in July.
The robbery took place at 12:20 am on 26 January 2022, when several men wearing balaclavas entered a property on Borough Road. One of the men had a knife and made threats towards the occupants, and shockingly, a young child.
A man and a woman were also assaulted during the terrifying ordeal. The offenders took cash and jewellery.
A long and complicated investigation finally resulted in Chowdhury being charged in connection with the robbery.
Merseyside Police also announced today that a 36-year-old man was charged with burglary of a dwelling after stealing tools from a Tranmere home earlier this month.
Officer in charge of the case, Hollie Stott, said: "This was a shocking incident in which a family, including a young child, were threatened in their own home with a knife.
"Being a victim of a robbery can have a profound effect on the lives of victims, from the shock and unease felt by having somebody invade your home and the upset and inconvenience of losing property, through to the often-severe long-term psychological impacts."
