A London man has been jailed for hacking a Wirral woman's social media accounts, using her images to set up fake profiles, and blackmailing her with them.
Bosun Osagie, 25, of Hartslock Drive in Bexley, South London, was sentenced on 12 October to two years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to computer hacking and blackmail. A 10-year restraining order was also imposed preventing him from contacting the victim.
Merseyside Police said they received a report in February 2023 that a woman's Snapchat and X accounts had been hacked.
Her photos were being used to create fake accounts advertising her as a sex worker, and her photos were also being sold online, leading to her being blackmailed.
After lengthy police investigations, Osagie was arrested and charged. He pleaded guilty at an earlier court hearing.
Detective Sergeant Darren Devonport said: "Osagie's actions have caused deep distress to the victim where he not only intruded into privacy but then tried to blackmail her into giving him money. The victim did the right thing and reported it to us.
"Merseyside Police is completely committed to stopping the possession and distribution of indecent images. We hope that Osagie will now reflect on the consequences of his crimes and the significant impact on the victim while serving his jail time."
