1. The Magazine Hotel
The Magazine Hotel sits in the heart of the Magazine Conservation Area in New Brighton. It has a rich history, having been established in 1759, and is one of the oldest pubs in the Wirral.
The Magazine Hotel has some unique offerings, and an open fireplace to curl up in front of in the winter.
The pub is a Cask Marque member, a multi-award-winning Wirral CAMRA pub. Guest ales from local breweries feature prominently, with Brimstage Brewing's Trapper's Hat becoming so popular it's now a permanent fixture on the bar.
Views from the pub include the River Mersey and the New Brighton promenade. In the summer, the beer garden is popular with walkers, families, and tourists, especially when the sun is out. The pub is open seven days a week. It is open from 12 to 10 pm on Mondays, 12 to 11 pm Tuesday to Wednesday, 12 to 11:30 pm on Thursday, 12 to 11 pm on Friday, 12 pm to midnight on Saturday, and 12 to 11 pm on Sunday.
2. Hawkwinds & Jokerman Micro Pub
The Hawkwinds & Jokerman Micro Pub opened in November 2025 and is a one-room micro pub. Located in Wallasey Village, the bar is popular for its cask and keg beers. Inside, the ceiling is decorated with replicas of popular band album covers.
If you're wondering, the name references the band Hawkwind and Bob Dylan's song "Jokerman". Inside the micropub is a TV screen which links to the Untappd website, which displays the description and names of all beers being served in the pub. The team behind the pub regularly posts about the new beers they've acquired, so you know you're not always going to be drinking the same thing.
Hawkwinds & Jokerman is open from 1 to 9 pm on Sunday and Monday, 3 to 10 pm on Tuesday to Thursday, 1 to 11 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 9 pm on Sunday.
3. The Lighthouse
Also in Wallasey Village, The Lighthouse is a Greene King venue that was renovated two years ago after a major refurbishment in August 2024. This pub opened in 1966 following the demolition of the old pub before it. What's unique about this pub is its fancier than most chain pubs, boasting three different bars.
The pub has a designated area for sports fans to watch games, as well as an area for cocktails and champagne. It is worth noting the pub has a garden which can fit almost 300 people in there, perfect for an event day or a summer's evening.
On the menu here are standard pub classics and familiar Greene King dishes. The pub also has a bottomless brunch option for £30, where customers can get selected bottomless drinks and brunch dishes.
The Lighthouse is open 11:30 am to 11:00 pm Monday to Thursday, 10:30 to 12:00 am on Friday and Saturday, and 10:30 am to 11 pm on Sundays.
4. Stanley's Cask
Stanley's Cask is a dedicated cask ale pub that is another single-room community pub in New Brighton on Rake Lane. Landlady Avril Roberts has been managing the pub since 2008. It has a long history, opening in 1877 as the Nags Head and later being renamed. It got its current name from a local pub group owner.
Live music takes place on Tuesday, plus Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with various local bands playing a variety of musical genres. The pub was awarded Local CAMRA Autumn Pub of the Season (2025) and won other CAMRA awards in 2013 and 2022. They previously offered five different cask ales on tap, but this may change.
Stanley's Cask is open 12 to 11 pm Monday to Wednesday, 12 pm to midnight Thursday to Saturday, and 12 to 11 pm on Sunday.
5. The Scrap Yard
The Scrap Yard is where Liscard residents can come for it all: coffee, tea, or alcoholic drinks. The pub/bar opened in 2017 and was taken over in 2025 by Richie and Hazel Pitt. The pub, based on Wallasey Road, has been praised for its number of beer taps and its quirky branding as a 'bit of everything' hangout spot. Since it's under new management, the pub has been praised for cheaper pints, good food, and a nice atmosphere.
In terms of beer, it offers: craft ales, IPAs, lagers, stouts, ciders, and fruit or sour beers.
If you're in Liscard and want to visit, The Scrap Yard is open from 5-11 pm on Monday and Tuesday, and 10 am to 11 pm from Wednesday to Sunday.
6. The Queens Arms
Situated in Liscard, The Queens Arms is another community favourite in Liscard Village. The pub describes itself as a "cheery local" and has many TV screens for sports. Although the pub doesn't serve any food, it makes up for it in events. The pub had an over £200,000 investment in 2022 and came under new management. It's highly regarded for its daily drink offers and welcoming atmosphere.
Craft Union became part of the pub's identity when it reopened, and added entertainment like karaoke and live music to the mix.
The Queens Arms is open 11 am to 11 pm Monday to Sunday.
7. Breakers Sports Bar
Situated on New Brighton's waterfront, Breakers is a relatively new sports bar above New Brighton's old indoor fair. It opened in July 2026, and offers views out towards the Mersey and Fort Perch Rock. So far, Breakers has nothing but five-star reviews on Google, and is offering live sports and the opportunity for patrons to play darts and pool. There are 17 pool tables.
Breakers is dog- and child-friendly, so it is safe for everyone.
Free Pool Mondays are available at 5 pm every first day of the week.
Breakers is open from 12 pm to 1 am from Monday to Thursday, and from Friday to Sunday it's open from 12 pm to 2 am.
8. The Ferry Pub
One of Wallasey's seafront pubs, The Ferry on Tobin Street is located in Egremont, and is popular with walkers and families, and is considered to be a gem in Wallasey. Boasting over 1,000 Google Reviews, The Ferry is beloved for its views across the Mersey to Liverpool, as well as its beer garden and prime location.
The food is described as a place where "proper pub classics meet indulgent flavours". On the menu here is a selection of sharers and sides, such as salt and chilli chips and nachos. There are also pub classics like fish and chips and burgers, grilled meat, and a range of desserts. Drinks include a selection of bottled beers, alcopops, ciders, and cocktail classics.
The Ferry is open Monday to Thursday from 11 am to 11 pm, Friday and Saturday from 11 am to midnight, and from 11 am to 10 pm on Sunday.
