More than 1,000 runners are expected to descend on New Brighton this Sunday for the 13th staging of the BTR Wirral 10K, and there's some road closures you need to know about.
The race will take place 9:30 am on Sunday starting and finishing on King's Parade next to The Dips, where the Event Village will be based. The race last started and finished near The Dips in 2021 but will follow a new route this time.
From the start line on King's Parade, runners will pass the boating lake before heading along Ian Fraser Walk towards Fort Perch Rock. They will then continue along the promenade to the halfway point at Seacombe Ferry before turning back towards New Brighton.
The mostly flat course is suited to runners chasing a personal best, as well as those taking on their first 10K or stepping up their running distance.
While there is excitement around the race, there are some road closures, parking restrictions and things you need to know.
King's Parade will be closed from Coastal Drive to New Brighton Promenade, as reported by the Wirral Globe. Coastal Drive will be closed from King's Parade to Sandcliffe Road.
There will be no waiting or parking on Coastal Drive from 6pm on Saturday, October 10 until 3pm on Sunday, October 11.
Marine Promenade and Tower Promenade will be closed from 8.30am to 11.30am on Sunday.
A diversion route will be in place via Victoria Road, Warren Drive, Grove Road and Harrison Drive. Drivers are advised to follow the signed diversion route and allow extra time for their journey.
Rail disruption warning
Runners are advised that planned works on the Merseyrail Northern Line on Sunday will impact travel into Liverpool city centre.
Northern Line trains from the north will terminate at Sandhills, and from the south they will terminate at Hunts Cross. Replacement buses will run from Sandhills and Hunts Cross into the city centre.
The works also mean all Wirral Line services will run from James Street Station. Runners are encouraged to plan their journey ahead of time and allow extra time if using rail services.
Alan Rothwell, BTR Liverpool founder, said: "The popularity of the BTR Wirral 10K is steadily building with each year. Numbers are up again, and we've already raced past last year's final number, still with over a month to go.
He continued, "This is the last competitive BTR race of 2026, and then it's all systems go as we make final preparations for the iconic Liverpool Santa Dash. The Wirral 10K is always popular given its location and fairly flat route – and we're on course to sell out of places."
