Residents in Heswall and Irby will soon have a direct bus link to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre when a new service launches later this month.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, The 453 is one of two new services announced by Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram as Wirral's bus network returns to public control for the first time in around 40 years. The service will begin operating on Sunday 25 October.
But most importantly, the new circular service, 483/484, will help connections between Arrowe Park Hospital and West Kirby, Meols, Hoylake, Moreton, Saughall Massie and Upton.
Bus fares and timetables will be set back by the Combined Authority rather than commercial operators. The authority says this will allow services to be shaped by local need, with increased evening and weekend services on key routes and better links to Merseyrail stations.
The new routes will also use low-carbon buses. They will also feature USB ports, better seating, more space for wheelchairs and prams, and real-time audio-visual stop announcements, similar to the ones employed in London.
Mayor Rotheram said: "Taking back control of our buses has never simply been about changing who runs them. It's about building a network that works for passengers. These new services will make it quicker and easier for thousands more people to get to work, attend hospital appointments, or visit family and friends."
The Wirral rollout follows the successful launch of publicly-controlled services in St Helens in September 2026. Liverpool, Knowsley and Sefton are expected to follow by autumn 2027.
Further details on the new routes and other changes to Wirral bus services are available on the Merseytravel website.
