Heswall has featured as a filming location for the second series of BBC crime drama This City Is Ours, it has been revealed.

The award-winning series, which follows the fortunes of an organised crime family called the Kavanaghs, was filmed across the Liverpool city region, including a location in Heswall, as reported by BBC News.

In series one, Heswall was featured in the show, with episode one having scenes shot at Heswall Golf Course. However, series 2 filmed elsewhere, including along Pensby Road, on January 9, at the old Barclays Bank. Producers from the series reportedly wrote letters to residents at the beginning of the year, stating: "We have been given permission from the local authority to close Pensby Road from Telegraph Road junction up to May Road between 7 pm and midnight.

"To facilitate our filming, we would like to park our essential tech vehicles on Moor Lane, May Road and Pye Road Car Park.

"To secure the space we need, you may see our security guards coning off the street the morning of filming in anticipation of the arrival of our crew. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times."

Other filming locations for series 2 included The Old School House pub and restaurant on Lark Lane, The White Hart pub on Hope Street, and The Vines pub on Lime Street in Liverpool.

The highly-anticipated drama will return to BBC One this autumn. Liverpool actor James Nelson-Joyce returns as leading gang member Michael Kavanagh, alongside Hannah Onslow as his partner Diana Williams.

The first series received BAFTA nominations for Best Drama and Leading Actor, and has attracted an average of 6.1 million viewers to date. Nelson-Joyce won the Best Breakthrough Talent Award at the RTS North West Awards 2025.

The second series introduces new cast members including Shaun Evans, who plays former gangster Ozzie Thompson, and Álvaro Morte as Felipe Guzman.
