The owner of a Heswall fish and chip shop has been named the best fryer in the UK.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, Cos Cos Michael of Pisces Fish and Chips picked up the title at the English Fish & Chips Awards 2026, where the shop also won Best Fish & Chip Shop in the North West.
Mr Michael said: "It's an incredible honour. This isn't just a personal award – it's recognition for our amazing team, our loyal customers and my family, who have devoted their lives to the fish and chip industry."
He added: "Winning both the UK's top frying accolade and the regional shop title is a huge achievement for both Pisces and the Wirral. The awards recognise not only exceptional cooking but also sustainability, consistency, innovation and outstanding customer service."
Mr Michael has been part of the Pisces team for years. However, he grew up learning the craft in the fish and chip business.
The popular shop, based on Milner Road, has been a Heswall staple since 2004. According to the Globe, they handle around 2,000 orders each week, drawing regular customers from across Wirral as well as high-profile visitors.
The shop has raised thousands for charities and local communities and prides itself on its charity work.
The English Fish & Chips Awards are among the most respected honours in the industry.
Pisces has previously been named among the Top 20 and Top 40 Best Fish & Chip Shops in the UK, earned the Blue Ribbon quality accreditation multiple times, and ranked among the top three most sustainable and eco-friendly fish and chip shops in the country.
Mr Michael concluded:"It’s due to hard work and our customers that we are where we are today, and we will continue to give back to our community as a thank you."
