A Neston man has been banned from driving after being caught driving at more than double the speed limit on a 20mph road in Flintshire, as reported by the Wirral Globe.
Paul May, 44, of Bridge Court in Neston, was found driving his Audi at 51mph on the A548 at just after 3am on September 13 last year.
He appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on 21 October. He was banned immediately for driving for 56 days. He had already clocked up six points on his licence.
Prosecutor Shaun Bartlett-Evans described the speed as "quite outrageous" and said it "simply cannot be tolerated in north Wales".
May represented himself in court and said he had passed his test over 27 years ago in 1999, and hadn't had a speeding fine since he purchased a caravan in Talacre.
"I've had three speeding problems," he said. "I find that the Coast Road goes from a national speed limit into a 20 zone. This was when the laws were just brought in, I don't think the setup of the roads was ready to deal with it."
He added: "There's no excuse, but you can't even see the signs sometimes, on the Coast Road. The setup of the road; it's just not good enough I don't think."
May told the court he had served in the forces and was homeless five years ago, having "lost everything". He now works teaching swimming at pools around Chester.
As well as the 56-day ban, May was ordered to pay a £346 fine, a £238 victim surcharge and £130 costs.
