A half term story time is taking place at West Kirby library on Tuesday 27 October at 2.30pm.

Organised by homelessness charity Wirral Ark, it is suitable for children aged 6 - 10, and is part of their campaign to promote their 'Ted Without a Bed' book.

Written by Emma Larkin and illustrated by Arwen Hughes, it was distributed to primary schools across Wirral in September, as well as their very own Arky teddy bear.

The book aims to help children understand homelessness in an age-appropriate and compassionate way, encouraging conversations about the importance of kindness, understanding and making sure everyone has a safe place to call home.

At the story time event, children will get the chance to put their creative talents to the test by designing a Christmas jumper for Arky Bear.

There will be a winner from Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in primary schools, as well as from Years 7 and 8 (Key Stage 3) in secondary schools.

The winning designs will be printed onto real Christmas jumpers for them, and each winner will receive their own Arky bear also wearing a jumper with their design and a copy of Ted Without a Bed.

Rachel Murdock, Development Manager at Wirral Ark, said: “It's been wonderful to get Ted Without a Bed into schools across Wirral and to see Arky begin his journey helping children learn about homelessness and the importance of looking out for one another.

“Now Ted doesn't want to feel left out at Christmas! We're inviting children to get creative and design him a Christmas jumper of his own. We're really looking forward to seeing the colourful, imaginative designs the children come up with, and we hope the competition will be a fun way to keep the conversations about kindness and compassion going.”
