Tranmere Rovers will host a special guest at next month's Christmas lights switch on at their charity event, as the club's forward Connor Jennings will switch on the lights.

Phab's Wish Upon a Star, organised by I Am PHAB Wirral, takes place in the Legends Lounge on Thursday, 11 December, from 5pm to 8pm.

Spectators are given an option to sponsor a star that will be hung on the charity's Christmas tree with a personal message. They can also add a dedication or a wish. The tree will be lit during the evening.

Jennings is a patron of the charity. He scored the infamous goal at Wembley that won Tranmere promotion to League One in 2019.

The 35-year-old Rovers forward said in a statement: "Tranmere Rovers has always been about much more than football. It's about the people, the community and looking after one another and that's exactly what I Am PHAB Wirral represents."

"I hope as many people as possible come down to Prenton Park, enjoy the evening and help support this brilliant local charity."

The evening will include:

  • a performance by Wirral-based singer Helen Delamere.
  • a Christmas set from Hands & Voices, the Wirral sign language choir.
  • a Santa's Grotto.
  • festive stalls and refreshments.

Lorna Howell, chairwoman of I Am PHAB Wirral, said: "We wanted to create something really special this Christmas, something that brings the whole community together while also giving people an opportunity to remember someone they love, make a wish or share a message that means something to them."

"Every single star on our tree will tell its own story."

Money raised will support the charity's inclusive social activities for people of all abilities. Everyone is welcome.

Christmas events are already starting on Wirral, with a free lights switch-on at Eastham Ferry Hotel this weekend, and a programme of packed events there and across the peninsula.
