Wirral Park Hotel Greasby has thanked locals for supporting it during a difficult time.

The hotel, based on Greasby Road, was accused of being a 'migrant hotel' in rumours on social media.

The hotel said it was aware of the rumours and stated it had no intention of becoming one while condemning the rumours.

The hotel closed and reopened under new management on July 1, having previously been a Premier Inn Hotel.

Staff have also been subjected to threats over the rumours, which the hotel said it has "zero tolerance" for.

"We are also aware of threats and intimidating comments being made towards our staff. We have zero tolerance for this behaviour," part of the statement read.

"Our staff deserve to feel safe at work, and our guests deserve to enjoy their stay without being subjected to hostility or intimidation."

After receiving overwhelming support on social media, the hotel is now thanking those who stood up for it and its staff.

In a Facebook post, Wirral Park Hotel Greasby said: "We just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their incredible support and kind messages following our recent post.

We really do appreciate everyone who took the time to read what we had to say, share our post, and show their support for our hotel and our staff."

The statement continued by saying the hotel hopes the rumours are now put to rest.

The hotel also said they want to continue welcoming customers by providing a "welcoming place and base for people to stay".

The statement concluded, "Once again, thank you to everyone for your support. It really does mean a lot to us."
