Wallasey man changes plea last minute in sexual assault case

A 49-year-old from Wallasey changed his plea to guilty at Chester Magistrates Court on the morning his trial was due to begin.

A Wallasey man changed his plea today after his trial was set to begin, as reported by the Chester Standard.

Andrew Smalls, 49, of Danehurst Road, Wallasey, had been due to stand trial at Chester Magistrates Court today for sexually assaulting a woman.

He previously denied the charges back in May, and has now changed his plea to guilty before the trial could begin.

The offence took place in Chester on June 29, 2025.

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report following his change of plea.

He was warned he faces many options in the case, including a custodial sentence, and was released on conditional bail until his sentencing hearing.

He will be sentenced on June 26.
