Around 200 hospice supporters refused to let blustery conditions stop them completing a 6km twilight walk along New Brighton's promenade on Friday evening.

The Glow with the Flow event organised by Wirral Hospice St John's saw participants gather at Vale Park in New Brighton in glowing costumes and luminous accessories, despite there being winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, and low temperatures.

Wirral chapters of Rock Choir, led by Rebecca, performed uplifting anthems before keep fit instructor Gabby led a warm-up session. Hospice mascot John Bear joined in on the bandstand, where he was cheered on as he danced alongside participants.

Walkers set off around 6:30 pm on their circular route through New Brighton promenade, past Fort perch Rock, along Kings Parade to West Cheshire Sailing Club, then back to Riverside Bowl.

Many group members walked on, with friends, families, and dog walkers joining the twilight walk despite the weather.

At the halfway point of the walk, the Rapid Relief Team, a charity providing free food services to good causes, offered welcome respite with burgers, tortilla chips, chocolate bars, fruit, teas and coffees. The sailing club also opened its clubhouse and café facilities for walkers to shelter.

Kings Parade closed at the tide came in and the waves got higher. Kind volunteer marshals assisted the walkers onto Coastal Drive, just behind The Dips for the journey back.

The walk finished at Riverside Bowl, where walkers were greeted with a completion certificate a free bowling voucher for Riverside.
