Part of Wallasey's Solar Campus on Leasowe Road is being transformed into a new centre offering mentoring and one-to-one therapeutic support for children and young people.

Oasis Village Wirral are the ones offering the sessions led by Oasis, which is one of the biggest community development organisations in the UK. They run 59 academies across the country, as reported by Wirral Globe.

Oasis will work with schools, families, and parents who are facing problems with school attendances, special education needs and mental health.

During out-of-hours, school activities will offered, as well as mentoring in sport, agriculture, dance, art, numeracy, literacy, and sport.

The centre will be to try to help children who are struggling with mainstream schooling, so they can explore their strengths through new creative means that line up to their interests and personalities.

Oasis says it has been working with Wirral Council for two years to set up the project.

Organisations already on board include:

  • Quirky Café
  • Spark Youth
  • Prima Housing
  • the Department for Work and Pensions
  • Autism Together Wirral
  • Sunflowers
  • Cuddle Coop
  • LIPA
  • Greener Growth

Oasis founder Steve Chalke said: "As the name suggests, our work at Oasis Village Wirral is based around the principle that it takes a village to raise a child."

Tony Grant, director of the project, said: "The whole ecosystem of a child's life matters. By working with families, local charities, grassroots movements and faith groups as well as statutory services, we can provide a far more collaborative approach to community development."

Last week we reported that Wallasey's Penkett Day Nursery had been praised by Ofsted for inclusion.
