A popular New Brighton family festival was forced to cancel its last day on Sunday after high winds made conditions unsafe.
The New Brighton Family Food and Drink Festival announced on Sunday morning (July 26) that the event would not go ahead, following an urgent health and safety assessment, as reported by the Wirral Globe. The festival ran smoothly for three days from July 23 to 25, but was unfortunately forced to stop due to the wind.
Organisers Kate Corcoran and Jess Waring said the decision was "incredibly difficult" but that the safety of visitors, traders, performers and staff "must always come first".
The cancellation came after what the organisers described as three "record-breaking" days, with pleasant conditions on Friday giving way to deteriorating weather over the weekend.
In a statement on social media, Kate and Jess said: "We are absolutely heartbroken to announce that due to high winds and following urgent health and safety assessments this morning, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel today's New Brighton Family Food & Drink Festival.
Their statement continued, "The past three days have been absolutely incredible, with record-breaking visitor numbers and fantastic trade for so many of our amazing independent businesses. Thank you to every single person who came along and supported us. "
The organisers added they would take time to "reflect, regroup, and come back next year bigger, better and stronger than ever".
