A nursery in Prenton where children's health and wellbeing are the "highest priority" has been praised by Ofsted as a "fun place to be".

Partou Butterflies Day Nursery and Pre-school on Kingsmead Road North achieved a 'strong standard' for children's welfare and wellbeing in its latest inspection, with safeguarding standards deemed to be 'met' and an 'expected standard' achieved across all other evaluation areas, according to Birkenhead News.

The grading system is a new framework by Ofsted for early years education, replacing the single-word judgement with category-based assessments. These cover: inclusion, safeguarding, curriculum and teaching, achievement, behaviour and attitudes, welfare and wellbeing, and leadership and governance.

The inspector noted that children "show an impressive sense of belonging and emotional wellbeing" and are "emotionally connected to the staff who care for them". They also acknowledged the children look to the staff to join in on games.

The report added: "Health, independence, personal development and welfare are extremely well promoted in this setting."

Staff at the nursery and nursery leaders were praised for their "well-sequenced" curriculum for the children of all ages and their commitment to the children's personal progress.

Overall, the nursery was described as "inclusive", with SEND children having carefully crafted support.

The inspector observed: "There is a tangible atmosphere of calmness created by relaxed and friendly staff. Children and visitors are warmly welcomed, and children skip into the setting each morning, eagerly anticipating the fun that awaits them.

"Children's laughter and enthusiasm are infectious. When children giggle, staff smile and the entire room is alight with happiness and enjoyment."

They also noted that parents spoke highly of the staff, praising their "affectionate approach" to the childcare. Regular meetings between staff and parents were also acknowledged, as was the understanding of the staff of the children's development.

Partou Butterflies provides early years childcare and education for families in Prenton, Oxton, Claughton and surrounding areas. Every age group has a separate garden, and there is even a sensory room for children to explore different sights, textures and sounds.

Melanie Fitzpatrick, the nursery manager, said: "The many positive comments from the inspector highlight our total commitment to providing a secure and enjoyable experience for the children as they begin their learning journey."

She continued, "Settling into nursery life can be a big transition for children and families alike. The team takes the time to get it right for each family, making sure that everyone feels relaxed and confident."

The nursery is open from 7:30 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday.
