A man has been charged following an arson incident in Upton in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to Birkenhead News, police were called to reports of a man acting suspiciously outside a home on Shortfield Road yesterday at 3:20 am. Shortly afterwards, a fire was started next to the property.
Officers detained a suspect on scene. Leon Jones, 20, of Ford Way in Upton, has been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered and attempted theft.
He is due to appear at South Sefton Magistrates' Court today.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Stephenson said in a statement: "Thankfully no one was harmed during this incident, but there were people inside the home so clearly it could have had far worse consequences.
The detective continued, "Thanks to the fast response from officers, they were able to arrest a suspect at the scene. I hope this incident shows our communities how seriously we take reports of this nature."
