A delivery driver is in hospital after a row erupted between two motorists and escalated on a street in Egremont.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Merseyside Police were called to Rice Hey Road at 4:10 pm yesterday, following reports that a delivery driver in his thirties had been assaulted. He suffered injuries to his head and face.
In that time, officers say the driver of a private-hire taxi had left the scene. Police conducted enquiries and found a man in his forties and promptly arrested him on suspicion of assault. Currently, he is in custody.
Meanwhile, the delivery driver was taken to the hospital awaiting assessment. Police cordoned off the road, with a visible police presence seen at either end of the street.
"A car drove down one end of the road, and another driver drove up the other, and they couldn't get past each other. So one of the drivers stuck his nose out the window, and there were words exchanged," a 75-year-old man who lived on the street told the Echo.
"Then the same driver got out of his car and went to the passenger side of the other car, and more words were said. Then the driver punched the other driver before he went around to the driver's side and punched him some more.
"It happened around 4 pm/4:10 pm. I was about to sit down and eat my dinner when I heard all the commotion."
Two women who also live on the street described the altercation: "One car was reversing slowly, and the other driver was in front, and there was an altercation between them. The driver got out of his car and assaulted the other driver. The driver got out of his car, sat on the street, and called the police.
The resident also spoke of problems on the road, as there is "not enough parking" and too many cars.
