Man, 24, dies after Birkenhead Tunnel crash

Korben Bell from Cheshire died in hospital following a single-vehicle collision in the Queensway Tunnel on Tuesday. The 24-year-old was riding his Sur-Ron bike through the tunnel when the incident occurred at around 1:05 pm. Police subsesquently shut the tunnel to investigate.

The crash happened around two thirds of the way through the Queensway Tunnel.

A 24-year-old man has died after a crash in the Birkenhead Tunnel on Tuesday, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Sadly, the 24-year-old, named as Korben Bell, who lived in Cheshire, lost his life after being in hospital in critical condition.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at around 1:05 pm on 11 August, about two-thirds into the Birkenhead Tunnel, towards the Liverpool side. He died yesterday, on 12 August.

The tunnel was closed for several hours while police conducted enquiries, although the definitive cause of the crash hasn't been made public or found yet.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the lead investigating officer from the Merseyside Police serious collision investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family who at this time are being supported by specially trained officers.

He continued, saying the investigation into the crash "remains ongoing", and the police are still appealing to anyone who was in the tunnel at the time who witnessed the collision to come forward.
