Police are trying to trace a dog and its owner after a man was bitten on the arm in Tranmere on Tuesday morning (3 November).

The man, who is in his 30s, was walking along Tudor Road into Park Road at around 11:20am when a large dog that was with its owner bit him.

Merseyside Police say the dog eventually let go, despite the owner trying to pull it off.

After a brief exchange, the owner and the dog walked off along Park Road and onto Oriel Road.

The victim was left with two deep cuts to his arm and needed hospital treatment.

The dog is described as large, with long brown hair. Police believe it is either a Bernese mountain dog or a Caucasian shepherd dog.

Neighbourhood Inspector Nicola Hughes said: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who the dog's owner is to please contact us as a matter of urgency.

"The victim sustained puncture wounds to his arm and was left understandably distressed by the attack.

"It is imperative that we identify the dog and its owner as quickly as possible so it cannot harm anyone else."
