A new baby bank based at Co-op Academy Hillside in Birkenhead is asking for donations before it opens next month.

Hillside Baby Bank aims to support parents of babies and young children aged 0 to 2, particularly families facing financial pressure.

The baby bank's opening is scheduled for Friday 4 December at 10:30 am. Organisers want to ensure they have plenty of stock to open with beforehand.

Donations can be dropped at Co-op Academy Hillside, Co-op Academy Woodslee and Co-op Academy Portland, and at several Co-op Food stores and the Hoole Road Hub in Woodchurch.

Items needed include clean, good-quality baby clothing from newborn to age two, new unopened packs of nappies, baby wipes, highchairs, and toys suitable for ages 0–2. All donations should be clean and in good condition.

Local collections can be arranged by emailing hill-babybank@coopacademies.co.uk. There is also an Amazon wishlist on the Hillside Baby Bank Facebook page.

The project is working with the Baby Bank Alliance. Staff have received training, and GPs and midwives will be able to refer families so items reach those who need them most.

The organisers hope to add more collection points at churches, community centres and other local venues.

Birkenhead's Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal is also asking for new toys this season to help children in need.

More information is on the Hillside Baby Bank Facebook page and at babybankalliance.org.
