A man has been arrested after a stolen electric bike was recovered in Tranmere following a theft.

Officers were out on patrol on 4 November and saw a man riding a Carrera electric bike on Church Road in Birkenhead.

They stopped him and identified as a suspect in the theft of a bike stolen earlier last month. The Carrera bike matched the description of the stolen bike.

Officers searched a nearby property where they found three e-scooters and two bikes, all suspected of being stolen.

Police say the original robbery was reported at around 10:50pm on 17 October. A man in his 50s was riding the bike on Mount Pleasant when two males rode either side of him, demanded he get off, hit him and his bike, then forced him off and took it.

A 24-year-old man from Tranmere was arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken into custody to be interviewed.

Detective Inspector Lee Egerton said: "Thanks to the vigilance of officers in Tranmere yesterday, a suspect has been arrested in connection with a robbery that clearly caused significant distress to the victim.

"Bike owners should be able to move around Merseyside without fear of being targeted in this way, and we will take robust action against anyone prepared to carry out such a robbery.

"While the arrest and recovery of the bike is a positive update and the investigation is progressing well, I would still urge anyone with information on the incident to come forward."

He asked anyone in the area at the time, or with CCTV or dashcam footage, to check it for anything that might help.

Anyone with information can contact @MerPolCC on X or Facebook, report online, or call 101 quoting incident reference 26000855050. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
