Revised plans have been submitted to Wirral Council to update Woodside and Birkenhead's waterfront.
The council says the aim is to reconnect the waterfront with nearby neighbourhoods and the town centre, following extensive survey work and supporting the wider Woodside Masterplan.
If approved, the scheme would create new public spaces, improved landscaping and a children's play area. Currently the bus interchange takes up a lot of space, and this would be moved to the south side of the side, with existing trees remaining and others planted.
A council spokesperson said: "Woodside is a unique location with huge potential through maximising the views across the Mersey."
The improvements are meant to make it easier for people to move between the ferry terminal, waterfront attractions, businesses and Birkenhead's retail core.
Wirral Council says it has secured "significant government funding" for the scheme, and that work will soon start on the next stage.
The Woodside works sit alongside a renewed Battle of the Atlantic visitor attraction and a new ferry pontoon. Partners are aiming for a coordinated opening, including ferry services back to Woodside, in spring 2028.
Wider plans are included in Birkenhead's general regeneration plan, and in this area, that includes improved highway links and public spaces connecting Woodside to the Argyle Street/Conway Street roundabout and recent town centre upgrades.

Earlier this week Mersey Ferries returned to fuller service as the new £26m Royal Daffodil entered service.
Wirral Council will decide the application. Comments can be made through the planning portal.
