Good news for some Wirral residents who may be looking for advice: Wirral's free advice service Ask Us Wirral will continue until at least March 2028 after councillors extended its contract

On 13 October at its meeting, the Adult Social Care and Public Health Committee approved the extension.

Ask Us Wirral is a free service that offers independent advice on a number of things such as benefits, employment, debt, housing, energy costs, health and wellbeing. The service aims to help people find practical support before problems become a crisis.

In 2025/26 it recorded more than 143,000 contacts and supported more than 2,700 complex cases and tribunals, as reported by the Wirral Globe.

Since the service started it has helped residents secure £25.2 million in benefit entitlements and supported the management or write-off of £27 million in debt.

Ask Us Wirral has been going strong since 2016 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Councillor Sue Powell-Wilde, who chairs the committee, said: "Ask Us Wirral provides a vital lifeline for residents who need support with everything from benefits and debt to housing and employment issues.

"The service has already helped thousands of people across the borough access the advice and support they need, and we're pleased that this contract extension will allow that important work to continue.

She added that early support makes a "real difference" as people can solve problems before escalation and access help they're "entitled to".

The extension comes after Wirral's adult social care service was rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

Residents can continue to contact Ask Us Wirral for free advice before issues escalate.
