Work has begun to remove the bright orange furniture on Birkenhead's Grange Road West, widely known as Wotsit Street.
Some of the planters and furniture have been taken away, according to the Wirral Globe, with water-filled barriers put in their place. The remaining pieces are expected to be removed very soon.
Wirral Council leader Councillor Paula Basnett confirmed earlier this month that all street furniture and planters would be gone by the end of August, while the orange and yellow road markings are expected to be removed by the end of September.
Councillor Basnett has criticised the £300,000 development.
The aim of the bright road markings and furniture was to try to calm traffic on and near the road, but the road markings were continuously mocked for resembling the British cheesy crisp Wotsits.
Following a six-month trial, officials acknowledged the colourful markings had "generated significant concern" and announced the furniture and planters would be removed.
The one-way system will remain in place on the road, and parking will be introduced to help local businesses and delivery people. The council has committed to donating the furniture to local schools and organisations so others can find joy in it.
Residents have largely welcomed the changes, with the vast majority expressing delight at seeing the back of the quirky design.
