The Wirral has been ranked among the top places in the North West to spend your golden years, according to a new survey across 294 English districts.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, the Twilight Years Capitals index, produced by care home operator Lovett Care, scored areas across 37 measures spanning health, care, transport, housing, environment and community.
Both areas scored 71.3 out of 100 and ranked joint 32nd nationally. Westmorland and Furness topped the region with a score of 76.6, placing 13th in England.
The borough performed particularly well for transport, ranking best in England for accessibility without a car, and came second-best in the region for health.
More than half of adults in Wirral are seen by an NHS dentist, with the percentage at 51.1. This is the second-highest rate in the North West. The area also has the third-lowest rate of hip fracture admissions among over-65s in the region. Random, but great, we guess.
Cathryn Fairhurst, managing director of operations at Lovett Care, said: "For so many of us, choosing where to live is impacted by factors such as work opportunities or the quality of education.
"But as people get closer to retirement age, they can start to focus more on what they want from where they live, whether that is access to nature, a thriving social scene, or good community services.
"This study was designed to discover which areas offer the best combination of a wide variety of factors that are important to older generations, and it's a reminder that there are plenty of places across England that are well placed for spending our later years."
Not all areas performed as well. Liverpool and Manchester ranked 281st and 280th nationally, largely due to low scores for community and safety.
In total, five North West districts made it to England's top 50 list, and 19 of the region's 35 districts ranked in the top half of the national table.
