A Wallasey man has completed an extraordinary bucket list challenge after surviving three days alone on a remote desert island off the coast of Central America.

Paul Bowness, 45, swapped the familiar surroundings of his Wirral home for a tiny uninhabited island sixty miles off the coast of Panama on a survivalist retreat.

The gruelling experience left the 45-year-old thirsty, hungry, and exhausted as he battled the elements with minimal supplies.

In a video posted by the Liverpool Echo, Bowness guts a small fish and washes it in the ocean.

Details of exactly how Mr Bowness survived his time on the island, including how he sourced food and water, have been shared on social media following his return from the adventure.

Reflecting on the experience, he told the paper that staying on the island made him realise "how lucky we are".

The bucket list experience meant Paul had to survive everything on the island, but the purpose was for more than just fun.

In his three-day getaway, the Wallasey native raised 2368 for the charity SOS Children’s Village. The charity helps kids who don't have parental support.

On his island adventure, Paul said in a statement: "On that island, when I was hungry, I got up early, started fishing at 9 am, caught the fish, had to gut the fish, scale the fish, prepare the fish, make a fire… It’s like five hours, just for a fish".

But Paul wasn't alone on the island. He met some fellow adventurers there who were training. The 45-year-old also noticed the dangers of the water, and with minimal supplies, he faced the real side of nature.

In a video on his own Instagram, the adventurer showcased a lean-to-style shelter he made with a small SOS flag on top. Still, his house collapsed later once the tide came in.

And if you're wondering, Paul returned safely from his adventure back in February. According to his Instagram, he's safe and sound back in the UK.
