An emergency operation was launched near Marine Lake in New Brighton in the early hours of this morning after reports of help were heard.
As reported by the Wirral Globe, the Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team was called to the area at 2.38 am this morning with concerns the shouts may have come from a male.
Coastguard Rescue Officers searched Marine Lake, surrounding beaches, and the River Mersey. A National Police Air Service helicopter searched from above while police officers searched the local area on the ground.
Wirral Council CCTV operators also assisted by reviewing camera footage covering the area.
Weirdly, despite the extensive search by the coastguard and rescue services, nobody was located. Responding units stood down, following no information coming from the calls.
The coastguard has reminded the public: "If you see someone in difficulty at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
