Plans have been submitted to demolish a long-empty office building in Liscard that has stood derelict for several years, according to the Liverpool Echo.
An application has been submitted to Wirral Council concerning Dominick House on St Alban's Road. The block has been vacant for over eight years, since it closed in 2018.
Like many buildings in Birkenhead, the future of the former government office has been called into question. The former building was once home to the Wirral's old job and DWP centre (now on Price Street. Many previous proposals included converting the site into apartments, while a major supermarket chain expressed interest in moving to the site.
Still, residents have called for the empty building to be demolished. A community partnership called Liscard Together called the property "beyond reasonable repair".
Despite doubts about the site's potential, the latest application has been submitted by Prospect Estates Ltd, which owns the leasehold of the building. Wirral Council remains the freeholder.
Documents submitted as part of the application claim demolition work could start as early as August 10 if the plans are approved.
Demolition can only take place once contractors install security fencing around the site and remove materials from inside the building.
According to the plans, demolition would be carried out to maintain the structure's stability throughout the process.
Working hours would be between 7:30 am and 5 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 1:30 pm on Saturdays, with no work on Sundays or bank holidays.
Once the demolition is complete, the site will be cleared and left in a tidy condition.
However, the plans for demolition are not yet approved.
