A deep hole has formed on New Brighton beach after water that was flowing from an outfall washed away a lot of sand on the beach, which prompted a warning from Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the hole appeared yesterday near Harrison Drive and Kings Parade. Photographs taken by residents showed a deep, steep hole with sand around the edges. Warning signs have been placed around it, warning residents of deep water and dangerous ground.
Since forecasts for the week show heavy rain across the Wirral, conditions may worsen, with more water filling the hole, or the ground around it becoming unstable. Residents are asked to heed the warning and be wary when on and around New Brighton beach.
A similar hole appeared a few years ago, where a child fell in, and rescue teams were called. They were unable to climb out with the sand around them, but thankfully they were rescued.
The coastguard has emphasised the dangers of the holes to children and dogs, and anyone in and around the area is asked to avoid climbing into holes or channels.
The warning comes on the same day as a water pipe burst in Liverpool in Elm Vale in Fairfield.
The coastguard warned: "The beach you walked across yesterday may not be the same beach you find today."
Anyone who sees someone in difficulty at the coast should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
