Merseyrail passengers face major disruption on Wirral lines due to signalling problems

Train services between Bidston and Liverpool Central have been suspended, with rail replacement buses running and a shuttle service operating between Bidston and West Kirby. Trains are also affected between Birkenhead North and New Brighton. The delays have been due to a signal failure on the line.

Passengers on Merseyrail's Wirral lines faced major disruption on 21 August due to signalling problems on the network, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Services on both the West Kirby and New Brighton lines were affected, with delays reported across the network from around 3 pm.

Merseyrail introduced rail replacement bus services to help passengers complete their journeys. On the West Kirby line – which serves Heswall and other stations on the peninsula – buses are running between Leasowe and Birkenhead North.

A separate replacement bus service operated between New Brighton and Birkenhead North for passengers on that line.
