The Wirral Girls' Football Tournament is returning tomorrow and will be held at Leasowe Recreation Centre in Wallasey.

The female-focused football tournament will bring together 300 girls across 26 teams from Merseyside, north Wales and Cheshire, according to Birkenhead News.

The tournament will be a packed one, featuring 50 matches featuring young girls from all backgrounds. As well as playing the game, the tournament also serves to raise awareness around gender-based violence and promote safety, resilience and wellbeing.

This year's event is supporting Merseyside Police's Violence Against Women and Girls awareness campaign, 'Taking Action', using sport to spark open conversations and inspire change.

The tournament is supported by community partners including Everton in the Community, who have provided trophies and medals, and LFC Foundation, who will assist on the day and provide referees. Merseyside Youth Association will offer mental health support and guidance, while St John Ambulance will deliver lifesaving first aid lessons.

Wirral Taekwondo will be present to introduce self-defence techniques, and food will be provided by Rapid Relief Team, a non-profit organisation.

Constable Claire Ryan from Wallasey Community Team, who leads and organises the tournament, said she was proud to see the event return for a fifth consecutive year.

"Opportunities like this play a vital role in building confidence, encouraging teamwork and, above all, allowing young people to enjoy themselves in a positive and supportive environment," she said. "It's great to see even more partners joining us this year."

Laura Holmes, Cheshire FA Women and Girls Development Officer, said the tournament provides a fantastic opportunity for girls to enjoy football while engaging with educational workshops available throughout the day.

Families, friends and residents are welcome to attend, cheer on the players and enjoy a day of girls' football. The event runs from 12 pm to 6 pm at Leasowe Recreation Centre.
