Police have arrested a teenage boy and a 20-year-old man after a Sur-Ron motorbike and several wraps of cannabis were seized in Woodchurch yesterday.
Officers on patrol in the area at around 6:15 pm spotted two males riding a black and gold Sur-Ron motorbike on Hoole Road. The pair drove away from the officers onto nearby fields, which was observed to be dangerous as members of the public had to move out of the way.
As reported by Birkenhead News, officers later found the two on Ford Way. Both had discarded their balaclavas.
A 20-year-old from Greasby was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. A 17-year-old male from Woodchurch was arrested on suspicion of breach of a criminal behaviour order, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving a motor vehicle without a licence, theft of a vehicle, and drug driving after officers searched him and found wraps of cannabis.
The bike was later recovered by police, and the suspects were taken into custody to be questioned over the bike and the other offences.
Chief Superintendent Mark Wiggins said in a statement: "These two arrests send a clear message that we will continue to take robust action, seize any dangerous vehicles and pursue those using them to commit crime in our community.
He continued, "Operation Gears is focused on tackling the criminal use of bikes that continues to cause harm to our communities. We know these vehicles are often linked to antisocial behaviour, drug supply and wider organised criminality, allowing offenders to move quickly and evade police.
"Illicit drugs like cannabis also bring violence, exploitation, and misery to our communities and we are committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible."
If you see anyone using illegal e-bikes, e-scooters, or electric motorcycles, please report it to Merseyside Police.
